Katy Perry Creates Controversial Blackface Shoes Apologizes After Backlash!

Are these shoes racist? Or is Katy Perry racist for designing them? The internet seems to be conflicted on the verdict, but the singer went ahead and apologized for the ‘offensive’ pair of footwear anyway!

As you might know already at this point, Katy Perry created controversy with her shoe collection that included a design resembling blackface!

More precisely, her Rue Face Slip-On Loafers and The Ora Face Block Heel, available in both beige and black are the ones people have a problem with.

The designs are decorated with blue eyes, a golden nose and red lips and some think the black colored version looks just like the stereotypical and caricatured representations of black people in the past, or simply put, a white person doing blackface!

It kind of makes the shoes look like someone before and after applying blackface when compared to the beige ones.

Either way, some were offended while others couldn’t believe people saw hate in those pairs of shoes and the images became viral over the weekend.

Soon enough, the singer’s brand management company, Perry and Global Brands Group announced the design has been removed from their website and apologized.

The statement released via E! News reads: ‘Rue and The Ora were part of a collection released last summer in 9 different colors (black, blue, gold, graphite, lead, nude, pink, red, silver) and created as a nod to modern art and to surrealism.’

‘I was saddened when it was brought to my attention that it was being compared to painful images reminiscent of blackface. Our intention was never to inflict any pain. We’ve immediately removed them from katyperrycollections.com.’
