Mel and Sue to Step Down as The Great British Bake Off Hosts
After news broke that Britain’s beloved baking show, The Great British Bake Off, would be moving broadcasters from BBC One to Channel 4, people speculated whether or not the hosts and judges would be making the jump as well. Now, in a statement released by the new broadcaster, it has been revealed that Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc will be stepping down as hosts of the show when it moves to Channel 4.
The infamous TV duo has been hosting along side the judges, Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry, since its 2010 beginnings.
In a statement by the pair they said:
We were very shocked and saddened to learn yesterday evening that Bake Off will be moving from its home. We made no secret of our desire for the show to remain where it was.
The BBC nurtured the show from its infancy and helped give it its distinctive warmth and charm, growing it from an audience of two million to nearly 15 million at its peak.
We’ve had the most amazing time on Bake Off, and have loved seeing it rise and rise like a pair of yeasted Latvian baps.
We’re not going with the dough. We wish all the future bakers every success.
It is still not clear to whether or not Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood will be returning as judges.
We’ll miss you Mel and Sue!
