Sean Morley/Val Venis Bashes the Hardy's

Publish date: 2024-06-06
I think some of you guys are taking this a bit too seriously, at least in reference to Val Venis/Sean Morley. He never once said that he was an incredible wrestler, that he deserved the spotlight the Hardys got or anything of the sort. He also neglected to point out his own storied history in the business, so you can't really say he was in it for himself at all. He was simply stating an opinion that, if you've been watching the Hardys for most of their careers, is hard to disagree with. You can't blame Val for anything he didn't say, but you can certainly praise him for being one of the first people in the business to speak out about the monsters of ego that are the Hardys and, in part, Shane Helms as well.

First, Matt. Although many say he was the better wrestler of the brothers, what did he ever do? He never had a really good singles match and was always overshadowed by Jeff when they tagged together. Jeff was more fun to watch and Matt was more fun to..make fun of? Honestly, he never had any amount of charisma that didn't feel forced and he absolutely never deserved to be on TV. If Matt Hardy, without riding his brother's coat tails, ever made any money for WWF/WWE at any time, I'd be incredibly shocked. He doesn't have the it factor and he is jealous of anyone who does outside of the little circle of insanity these guys live in. Matt can't be marketed without Jeff, period.

As far as bashing Paul London goes, Matt can just grow right up. I personally believe there is no need to have any hard feelings for anyone in that business aside from 2 reasons that seem the most common 1) they are a lunatic backstage and garner the hatred of their co-workers or 2) they are in direct competition with you for whatever reason. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Matt and Paul were never in direct competition for any role. I think they only ever met in a couple tag matches (and maybe some incredibly one-sided 2003 SmackDown! matches) so they obviously never had to fight over a spot. Paul was a cruiserweight and a tag champion before Jeff returned and Matt was too fat to be considered a cruiser and, unfortunately, was a tag champion while London was not. I don't see where Matt gets off bashing Paul unless it's a personal thing, which is..fine I suppose. I just don't see why Fatt can't be the bigger man (emotionally, because he has physically covered) and not complain about someone who has nothing to do with him.

Jeff, while easily the more notable and recognizable of the two brothers is (in the words of Flair) nothing more than a glorified stuntman. Jeff is not a wrestler, at all. He can probably sell a headlock or what have you, but so can I and I'm nothing more than a kid with a computer. Jeff just jumps around like a monkey hoping somebody will notice. And, we do, not because he does anything impressive (now, especially) but because he does what he does so haphazardly and in a way that endangers not only his own life but the lives of others. Jeff claims to be some sort of wrestling god, as I see it, but never comes off as anything more than a suicidal crackhead - which is, apparently, his appeal? Jeff used to be relevant, used to be cool with kids and used to have the respect of countless fans. Now, he's a washed-up, delusional shell of his former self and he still hasn't kicked the drug habit that murdered his career in the first place.

Jeff claims to have made people like CM Punk and maybe the fans he has left (basically people who are on acid 24/7, so far as I know) are willing to believe that. Anyone with a brain, however, is not. People like Samoa Joe, Nigel McGuinness and Bryan Danielson made Punk. punk made Punk. ROH made Punk. Jeff Hardy is not even a pimple on the ass of the indy legend that is CM Punk. And, you may say that Punk was made by Jeff, not in pee-wee but in the big leagues. Let's be honest; Punk was a name known by a huge percentage of real wrestling fans long before he ever came to WWE and, even when he did, he had no contact with Jeff for a very long time - long enough that he had already been World Champion and had been involved in feuds with major guys much more important than Jeff. Hell, even Punk/JBL did more to make Punk than Jeff ever did, and that was no 5-star matchup. You could have put damn well any top face in the program with Punk that Jeff claims he made him in and it would have had the same outcome. Punk was the reason Punk got popular, not Jeff - if the man didn't have the skill, charisma and ability necessary to become a top guy, he simply wouldn't have, period.

Helms is just a child, plain and simple. I never liked him under any gimmick that he used, even being himself was a poor choice. His greatest accomplishment is a win over The Rock that, very probably, inflated his ego to the point that it will never come back down to earth. Some lame cruiserweight title runs and tagging with Rosey rounded off a career that never really mattered. He's so bitter that it's hilarious to me - he should really be thanking Vince for picking up his contract after WCW folded. I don't think WWE would have failed had Shane Helms never been hired. He was never appealing and never will be. His attacks on Shawn Michaels are just horrible, for Shane. He's never going to be taken seriously again (if he ever was) and is only ever going to be known as the guy who used Twitter to let us all know how jealous of Shawn he is, so that's nice.

Shannon is just blah. Never did a thing that memorable and only ever got crushed by bigger guys. Not worth mine or anybody else's time. Just his association with this group of hoodlums proves his insanity.
